Material Efficiency and Resource Conservation (MaRess)
The project MaRess has been established by the federal ministry for environment, environmental protection and reactor security and the federal environmental office with the aim of developping strategies and ideas for a successful ressource efficiency policy. Within the time frame of 3 years 31 project partners carry out researches in 14 work packages under the supervision of the Wuppertal Institute.
The project goals are:
- 1. the identification of potentials for the enlargement of ressource efficiency,
- 2. the development of target group specific ressource policies,

- 4. the scientific company of the implementation, the agenda setting and the target group specific communication of the results.
Within the focus of the project there are several target groups: business (e.g. companies, unions), society (e.g. NGOs, foundations, science and othe multipliers), politics (e.g. communities, federal states, federal republic, EU) and media.
Analysis of potentials by leading products and technologies
Trifolium and the Fraunhofer Institute for work science and organisation (IAO) are the project leaders of the working package 1.
In working package 1 products and technologies with high ressource efficiency potentials (leading products and leading technologies) and markets for the offer of ressource efficient products and technologies (leading markets) are identified. The result will be a list of central innovative ressource efficiency enlarging leading products and technologies. Based on this result further research will be carried out on the ressource efficiency potential of ca. 20 selected leading products and technologies. This research will be carried out with respect to innovative service offers which will be the pathways to leading markets.
