MIPS ? The Analysis Method
Material-Input per serviceunit
In order to determine the input-orientated environmental pollution of products and services, MIPS indicates how many resources are included for a product or service.
By means of the MIPS concept, companies undertake a life-cycle encompassing examination of their products and services, from an environmental point of view.
Through the analysis and calculations, MIPS also provides the decisive advantage of identifying potentials for product- and process-innovation, by which current and future markets can be maintained and expanded.
MIPS is not specific to material and is precaution-orientated. MIPS directs itself against known, as well as unknown environmental problems. In this way, MIPS is suitable as an indicator of pre-environmental protection issues.
